Too many locations, not enough LP coverage
Mike Wimpy is the Director of Loss Prevention across McKeever Enterprise’s 12 Price Chopper grocery stores. Every theft investigation, safety incident, and police request across the company eventually finds its way to him.
When Mike inherited the function, more than half of McKeever’s stores still relied on aging analog camera systems. Investigating an incident consumed most of a workday between driving to the location, reviewing footage on-site, and coordinating with police.
“Before Spot, I felt like I was constantly chasing my workday. I could never get in front of anything,” Mike said.
McKeever initially chose Spot AI to modernize its camera environment and bring video from all 12 stores into one easy-to-use platform.
“The selling point for me was how familiar and easy it felt to use—almost like using YouTube.”
That familiarity helped make the transition easier as McKeever brought Spot AI into its stores. The Spot team worked closely with Mike to get each location up and running, and the platform became a dependable part of his day-to-day workflow.
A stronger LP presence across every store
With less time spent traveling, Mike can respond to more requests, follow up on more tips, and spend more time investigating suspicious activity, regardless of where he is physically working that day.
Mike explains what that’s allowed him to do:
“I’m able to have more of a presence because of Spot. Even though I’m just one person, I’m everywhere—and everybody knows that.”
Employees don’t need to see Mike standing in their store to know that incidents will be reviewed. When a manager reports suspicious activity, he can investigate it. When he notices something questionable while reviewing another incident, he can make a note and return to it. And when he has time between requests, he can proactively look into areas where theft is more likely to occur.
Turning presence into action
That presence also helps McKeever respond faster when an incident does happen. After a disruptive individual removed property from one store and later returned, Mike used Spot AI to reconstruct the sequence, create clips of each key moment, and package the evidence with the police report number. He assembled the complete police-ready case in about 30 minutes, roughly a fraction the time he estimates it would have taken without Spot AI.
“When I present a case to police with video clips from Spot AI, officers will often tell me, ‘Nobody ever does that. Thank you.’ I want to make sure they have exactly what they need.”
Police removed the individual from the property, allowing the store to return to normal operations.
By making it easier for one experienced LP professional to investigate incidents across the entire business, Spot AI extends Mike’s reach well beyond his physical location. The more consistently he follows up, the more visible loss prevention becomes and the greater the perceived likelihood that an incident will be discovered and addressed.
The payoff: 27% fewer incidents
McKeever’s case data shows total incidents declined from 49 between January and August 2025 to 36 during the same period in 2026—a 27% reduction. Several recurring loss categories contributed to that improvement:
- Employee theft cases declined from 11 to 8, a 27% reduction
- Self-checkout theft cases declined from 4 to 1, a 75% reduction
- External shoplifting cases declined from 15 to 12, a 20% reduction
Mike points to the capacity Spot AI gives him to investigate more consistently and maintain a stronger presence across McKeever’s stores.
“The more employees see me tackling issues like theft, the less likely they are to try it themselves.”
That is the connection Mike sees between the platform and the results. Spot AI saves him time. He reinvests that time into more proactive loss prevention. Employees see that incidents are being investigated and addressed. And that visible follow-through helps deter future theft.
More than just a platform
As the sole person responsible for loss prevention across 12 stores, Mike knows what it feels like to have the company—and sometimes law enforcement—waiting on him for answers. When an important request gets complicated, he needs more than a support ticket. He needs a team willing to stay with the problem until it’s resolved.
Mike recalled one instance when important video was difficult to retrieve. A Spot team member helped recover and organize the footage, making sure Mike could deliver it to the police officer who needed it.
That experience reinforced why Mike sees Spot as more than a technology provider. Even when a situation gets difficult, he knows there are people behind the platform who will take ownership and help him see it through.
“I know the Spot team will do everything they can to help, no matter the situation. It’s more than just a platform. I know I’m going to be taken care of.”
Getting ahead of the workday—and the next incident
McKeever continues to explore new ways to extend Mike’s reach, including using Spot’s Video AI Agents to help automatically detect, deter, and resolve incidents.
The most important transformation however, is already in place. Before Spot AI, Mike spent much of his day traveling between stores and trying to keep camera systems running. Today, he has the bandwidth and time to act as a consistent LP presence across all 12 locations.
“Before Spot, it felt like I could never get in front of anything. After Spot, I’m able to do so much more, and that’s amazing.”
