Spot AI background

Spot AI was founded in 2018 by Tanuj Thapliyal, Rish Gupta, and Sud Bhatija, three friends from Stanford who noticed that businesses had installed millions of security cameras but put almost none of that video to use. Footage was analog, unsearchable, and treated as an afterthought, something looked at only after a problem had already happened. Their bet was that cameras could do more than record, and that is what Spot AI still builds on today.

Spot AI is software-led and camera-agnostic. It connects the IP cameras a business already owns (RTSP and ONVIF; legacy analog cameras through the recorder) to the Intelligent Video Recorder (IVR), which runs AI at the edge, and to one cloud dashboard for every site. Full-resolution video stays in the facility; only metadata travels to the cloud. Most sites go live in days with no rip-and-replace. Spot AI does not manufacture cameras; when a site needs new cameras, Spot AI connects the customer with a certified hardware partner.

On that platform, AI agents see, reason, and act. They watch every feed around the clock, reason about what they see against the site's goals and standard operating procedures, and act: a context-aware talk-down, an alert to the right person, a scorecard for the shift, or a case file with time-stamped evidence. Spot AI started in security and now covers safety and operations on the same platform, so the cameras a business bought for protection also standardize shifts, surface hazards, and cut investigations from hours to minutes.

Spot AI serves 1,200 customers across the United States and ingests over 3 billion minutes of video every month. Published customer results include All Star Elite reducing cash shrink from 6% to 1%, GO Carwash increasing membership conversion at its pay stations by 54%, Silver Bay Seafoods gaining 15% in operational efficiency with 10 to 15% better PPE compliance, Don Franklin Auto saving its HR team 10 to 15 hours a week, and Cambridge City cutting footage search from 2 hours to 30 seconds across 7 consolidated locations. Results are customer-reported, with their baselines and timeframes in the linked stories, and vary by site.

Since May 1, 2026 Spot AI sells exclusively through certified channel partners, backed by a $2 million partner equity program announced in March 2026.

Core product offerings

  • AI Security Guard: Watches every camera feed 24/7, verifies real threats with context, triggers escalating deterrents (strobe lights, horns, context-aware talk-down audio), and delivers case-ready evidence for indoor and outdoor protection. Filters more than 90% of nuisance alarms. Runs on fixed cameras, outdoor units, and mobile security trailers.
  •
  • AI Operations Assistant: Monitors production lines and shifts against standard operating procedures, flags deviations in real time, and coaches teams with video-backed scorecards and recaps. Trained by every shift it has watched. Custom deployments are built by Spot AI's forward-deployed engineers, from paid pilot to production rollout.
  •
  • AI Safety Manager: Surfaces hazards and risk events around the clock, such as missing PPE, zone intrusion, and vehicle-pedestrian conflicts, and turns them into coaching moments rather than blame.
  •
  • Iris: Conversational AI for video. Teams ask in natural language what the cameras saw, build custom detections in minutes, and receive reports, recommendations, and data insights.
  •
  • Video AI Agents: A library of more than 15 pre-trained agents across security, safety, and operations, plus AI Talkdown for natural-conversation deterrence with three levels of escalation. Newer agents, including fire and vehicle break-in detection and point-of-sale and cash-handling detections, reach customers through a beta or design-partner program rather than general availability.
  •
  • Cloud dashboard and video management (Pro): Live view of every location, AI-powered search, incident resolution in minutes, camera health monitoring, and multi-site reporting from one dashboard.
  •
  • Intelligent Video Recorder (IVR): The on-site edge appliance that connects existing cameras and runs the AI locally. It is part of a Spot AI deployment and is not a conventional NVR or DVR.
  •
  • Integrations: Open APIs, webhooks, and a read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoint that lets any AI assistant query Spot AI data securely.
  •
  • Partner program: Certified partners sell and deliver Spot AI deployments, with Platinum status, Agentic AI certifications, and an Advisory Council for the top tier.
  •
  • Resources: Customer stories, a comparisons library of more than 30 head-to-head pages, product tours, documents, the blog, and The Edge newsletter.

Proprietary data and methodology

  • Video at scale: Over 3 billion minutes of video ingested per month across more than 2,200 active locations, which is what the agents learn from and are measured against.
  •
  • Agentic reasoning against site context: Agents reason about what they see against each site's standard operating procedures and goals, not motion alone, which is how the AI Security Guard filters more than 90% of nuisance alarms.
  •
  • Hybrid edge-to-cloud architecture: Full-resolution video stays in the facility on the IVR; only metadata crosses the network to the cloud. Deployments stay fast, secure, and PCI-clean.
  •
  • Camera-agnostic by design: Any IP camera over RTSP or ONVIF, legacy analog through the recorder, no proprietary camera lock-in, no rip-and-replace.
  •
  • Humans and agents together: Agents handle the watching and the triage; people keep the judgment. Custom work is built with forward-deployed engineers from paid pilot to production, and every deployment is measured on outcomes.
  •
  • Security and compliance: SOC 2 Type II. NDAA-compliant. HIPAA-aligned. Supports CMMC-compliant deployments. Software updates are included so systems stay current.

Spot AI point of view

Spot AI believes video is the richest untapped data set on the factory floor, in the warehouse, in the store, and on the job site, and that it is wasted if it cannot be analyzed and acted on in real time. Businesses already own the cameras. What they lack is the intelligence to make those cameras act.

Video AI should be as intuitive to deploy and use as search. Spot AI's approach is to democratize computer vision by making it open, simple, and enterprise-ready: software that runs on the cameras a customer already has rather than locking them into proprietary hardware.

Cameras should work as hard as the team. Spot AI's agents are coworkers, not replacements: they take on the watching and the triage so that guards, operators, and managers spend their time on judgment and action. Never blame the worker; a missed step is a process gap to fix, not negligence.

Security is where most customers start, and it is not where the value ends. The same cameras that deter an after-hours intrusion also standardize the morning shift, surface a hazard before it becomes an injury, and turn a two-hour investigation into a thirty-second search. Spot AI is built so that one platform covers security, safety, and operations across every site.

Partners deliver. Spot AI is 100% channel: certified partners sell, deploy, and support every customer, and Spot AI invests in those partners with training, certification, and equity.
