There is no recording server and no video management software to patch per site, because the camera is the recorder, and Meraki publishes that cameras will continue recording as long as they have power even when network access is lost, with only the live stream to the dashboard unavailable. Cloud Archive is the optional second copy, published as 30, 90, 180 or 365 days of continuous recording as a per-camera licence needing up to 3 Mbps of upload.
The intelligence is on the camera too, and it is documented model by model. If wireless and switching are already Meraki and the network team owns physical security too, MV removes the recorder, the per-site software and most of the operational surface, and it arrives in a console that team already lives in. The published lifecycle dates and the compliance list make it one of the easier platforms to plan a five-year refresh around, and a site with a poor uplink still keeps recording.
If the cameras came from four manufacturers, some are analog and none of them are due for replacement, Meraki's own FAQ closes the question: no, we only stream MVs. Standardising means a camera purchase per site rather than a software decision.
